Office of the President Intern

The Office of the President is seeking a summer intern who has a passion for bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to the workplace and public health. The intern would design a resource library and identify content to include which will serve as a hub for learning materials and guide DEI level setting and learning initiatives organization wide. The intern will report to the Deputy CEO and collaborate with Vital’s DEI Task Force’s Learning and Unlearning work group.

Resource Library:
The Resource Library is a living document that serves as a means for Vital staff to stay current on DEI related issues as they apply to our specific areas of work, and to inform the development of DEI activities in our own workplace. Resources will be accessible by all staff for use by both individuals for their personal pursuit of education and development in these areas, as well as for use by programs or groups to supplement other DEI initiatives like book/journal clubs, movie screenings, all-staff newsletters, recommendations for resources from external project partners, or a source for planning brownbag/speaker events.
 
Responsibilities
  1. Design the structure and topic areas for a resource library database. Sample topics include, but are not limited to
  2. Historical foundations of racism
  3. Developing a shared language
  4. Privilege
  5. Allyship
  6. Microaggressions
  7. Decolonizing global health
  8. Develop criteria for the type of materials and material content that can be uploaded into the Resource Library, Ex. scholarly articles, podcasts, news articles, webinars, videos, etc.
  9. Conduct research on DEI learning materials and identify opportunities to expand on content catalogue 
  10. Partner with the Learning and Unlearning work group to develop protocols for submission of new materials
  11. Assist in the support/coordination of Vital’s company-wide DEI efforts and initiatives
  12. Research best practices to recommend new approaches, training, policies and procedures to effect continuous improvement of employment and diversity processes
  13. Supporting logistics for company-wide DEI meetings and events, including town halls
  14. Other duties as needed 
 
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
  • Undergraduate students going into senior year or graduate student studying public health, public policy, social sciences, or other related degree program 
  • Prior experience/involvement with DEI a plus
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit environment a plus
  • International work experience/exposure a plus
  • Academic research experience a plus
  • Ability to evaluate articles for bias/objectivity and applicability to Vital’s workplace environment and programs. 

Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of public health topics a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and autonomously
  • Comfortable taking initiative and being resourceful
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to think critically
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, and interested in making a difference and positive impact
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
