Video Intern - Office of Marketing

Office of Marketing Internship 

Reports to:
University Photographer and Social Media Specialist
 
Join our fast-evolving creative marketing team charged with covering both promotional/campaign videos and a multitude of KU events including, press conferences, academic and club activities, campus and student life and more. Your fast-paced internship will be led by a seasoned photographer/videographer and provide ample opportunity to build your reel, gain visibility in your field, network and attach your name to the university’s promotional pieces.
Social media video production:
  • Shoot above events using university equipment.
  • Ability to quickly transfer to platform for upload to social/web, etc.
  • Edit compilation coverage for social media.
  • Identify opportunities for on-campus coverage of events and activities.
  • Concept and pitch to editorial team, including social media and editorial GAs.
  • Log relevant event information for tagging/captions to be written by editorial team.
Video editing for long form or promotional/campaign videos.
Audio editing.
Still photography duties.
Other duties as assigned:
  • Organize and plan video productions within the project management system.
  • Conceptualize, shoot and craft compelling stories.
  • Recommend style and format of videos to appeal to audiences across specified channels, utilizing industry best practices and analytics.
  • Prepare and write outlines, scripts and storyboards for video projects.
  • Coordinate and maintain production timeline with talent (e.g., faculty, administrators, staff, students, alumni, donors).
  • Set up and strike all lighting, camera and audio equipment.
  • Utilize digital audio and video post-production software as required for asset management, transcoding, scanning, titling, audio mixing, media conforming and color grading.
  • Prepare rough cut and final cut videos using Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Encode video for different delivery systems including social media, web streaming and downloadable web video/audio files as well as cross-platform presentation applications.
  • Create and maintain archives of raw video footage and completed projects.
Assigned average 2-3 productions per week with ability to add your personal photo credit for public recognition. Assignments may include:
  • On location shoots (may require travel).
  • Setup/teardown.
  • Lighting.
  • Camera operation.
  • Audio.
  • Engineering operations (as needed).
 
Qualifications:
  • Candidates should have knowledge of video camera equipment, video editing software, mobile editing apps, etc. to perform duties. Equipment includes P2 camera and Adobe Premiere Pro editing software. Candidates must also be familiar with basic cameras including flip cam or basic video/still cameras.
  • Ability to learn and maintain brand standards.
  •  Must ensure that appropriate video/photo releases are signed and submitted to University Relations.
  • Proven ability to interact well with all levels of the organization, including faculty, staff, students, Council of Trustees and the greater campus community.
  • Must follow the University Relations dress code and represent the institution professionally at all events.
  • Ability to become familiar with and cross-train to engage closed-captioning available through various platforms to meet disability standards or add captioning to ensure optimal engagement without audio is a plus.
