Summer Intern- Information Systems Clinical Systems

Department Summary:

The Mass General Brigham/Information Systems (IS) Clinical Systems team is responsible for maintaining and updating several clinical applications that allow clinicians to interact with real-time clinical data to provide patient care. Many of the applications our team supports are integrated with the Enterprise Electronic Health Care Record (Epic). Our team coordinates new software enhancements, including requirements gathering, documentation, QA testing and implementation of software changes. In addition to active complementary application support, our team also responsible for Legacy Data Archiving (LDA) projects. The LDA projects involve archiving data from many legacy applications that are no longer regularly used for active business purposes but must remain available for easy access. Our location is in a comfortable office setting at Assembly Row in Somerville, though current work would be primarily remote.

Project responsibilities:
Analyst assistant for Clinical application projects and or LDA archiving projects. Several systems will be at various stages of completion, providing the intern the ability to see the all stages of a project including completion of various aspects of their work. This a role reporting to an analytical team, working on analysis, testing, documentation and reporting of findings to analyst mentor.

Tasks assigned include the following:
- Attend weekly team meetings
- Assist with analytical tasks specific to one or more projects such as:
1. Perform data validation on the extracted data
2. Test functionality specifically designed for this project
3. Re-test after corrections to validate fixes
4. Document test findings
5. Additional tasks as directed by Project Manager

*It is critical to have careful validation of the extracts prior to loading the data into the archiving application to avoid costly re-work after loading the data into the archiving application.
Attention to detail is a critical skill for this position.

Qualifications -
- Ability to use Microsoft office tools including Excel/Word/PowerPoint (basic functionality)
- Good writing skills
- Analytical thinker who pays close attention to details
- Someone who asks questions and is interested in learning how things work
- Professional attitude and commitment to team

Preferred level of student: Undergraduate

Preferred major or course of study: Business, Math, Science

Location(s): MGB has implemented special remote working policies due to COVID-19. These policies are subject to change; however, it is currently expected that this position will work remotely (e.g. from home) full time through September 2021

If onsite: Remote Assembly Row, 11th floor

Hours per week and schedule: 40 hours, M-F 8-4:30
