NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) located in Ann Arbor, MI is hiring a Research Physical Scientist, ZP-1301-3/4. The announcement will be open for 16 days; it is set to open on 9/13/2021 and close on 9/29/2021.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement numerical hydrodynamic, hydrologic and sediment transport models, and design and execute field programs to calibrate and validate models.
  • Serve as a Principal Investigator preparing, coordinating and directing the implementation of a research program or project. Define technical problems requiring study and/or solution and plan and develop advanced scientific and technical studies and evaluations within the program.
  • Provide responsibility for all aspects and phases of the research work including: planning and conducting experiments; collecting, analyzing and interpreting data; drawing conclusions; making recommendations for future work required; transitioning research to operational products; and publishing technical reports and peer reviewed papers and giving scientific presentations on research findings.
  • Develop short and long-term needs assessment research, coordinate and develop new procedures and guidelines requiring the use of advanced scientific techniques, and integrate emerging technologies into program systems.
  • Serve as the branch’s technical representative on coastal numerical modeling related panels, committees, and conferences.

Specialized Experience include all of the following:
  • Organizing or conducting research for the development of numerical hydrodynamic and Sediment transport models such as FVCOM, ADCIRC or SCHISM;
  • Running computer model codes on High Performance Computing (HPC);
  • Analyzing observation data and model outputs using programming language application such as Python, R, Matlab or IDL; and
  • Reporting and preparing scientific technical reports and/or results.
