DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System (SERS) operates a Defined Benefit Plan (401a), which was established in 1923 and is one of the nation’s oldest and largest pension plans. The Defined Benefit Plan has net assets of $38 billion and approximately 240,000 active and retired members.
The Defined Benefit Plan Accountant 1 reports directly to the Defined Benefit Accountant 3 and works alongside two Accountant 2s and a Fiscal Technician. The individual in this position is responsible for reconciling accounting records between the general ledger, the investment advisors, and State Treasury via reports from the Master Trust Bank (MTB). Duties include preparation and review of accounting reports, reconciliation of daily accounting transactions, and corresponding and collaborating with other business units within SERS. Interested in learning more? Read the full position description.

·       Full-time employment.
·       A work schedule beginning and ending between 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., inclusive, with a half-hour or one-hour meal period will be considered, dependent on operational requirements. The requested work schedule may not end prior to 4:00 p.m.
·       You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Qualifications:
·       Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting; or one year as a Fiscal Technician, and fifteen college credits in accounting; or one year as a Financial Programs Trainee; or five years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting; or successful completion of the Commonwealth's Accounting Intern Program.
