Spring 2022 Intern- Procurement Process Improvements--Philadelphia

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The purpose of this position is to attract individuals who are interested in a career in, Analytics and Reporting, Business Improvement, and/or Supply Chain and in developing business skills required to be effective in today’s challenging business environment. Candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply research, organizational and analytical skills in a fast paced, diverse business environment while learning about Amtrak, a critical element of our nation’s transportation infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
As a member of the Procurement & Supply Chain’s Business Improvement and Analytics team the ideal candidate will be able to:
  • Assist with analysis, interpretation and reporting of various departmental KPI metrics.
  • Retrieve data from Procurement & Supply Chain databases and systems; gather additional information from other Amtrak departments and data sources; sort and manipulate data to identify trends. 
  • Support supplier scorecard assessments to evaluate Amtrak’s vendor base.
  • Identify business improvement opportunities based on lean six sigma principles. 
  • Conduct data scrub and data cleansing activities. 
  • Assist with analysis, interpretation and reporting of various cost savings and spend data.
  • Attend office meetings, project meetings in Philadelphia, Wilmington and Washington DC, and conference calls and prepare meeting minutes as required
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in in Business Administration, Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, or similar degree.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Experience in MS Office software suite with strong aptitude in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Familiarity with Tableau or other data visualization software.
  • Strong quantitative research, data collection, and analysis skills.
  • Ability to identify challenges/barriers and make recommendations to get to a satisfactory outcome.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills sufficient to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and organizational aptitude.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Experience in SAP and Ariba.
  • Experience in working in a professional office setting.
  • Specific interest in working in the railroad industry and/or in a career in Procurement.
