Spring 2022- Engineering Intern--Philadelphia

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The purpose of this position is to attract new engineers and to promote careers in railway engineering by providing an entry point for engineers in training. Accepted candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply their engineering skills in both the office and field, and to gain firsthand work experience in the various aspects of railway engineering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of assigned Engineering Manager(s) the position will:
  • Rotate through various sub-groups of the Track Department.
  • Assist Track Geometry group with testing, inspections, curve modification design and capital maintenance planning. 
  • Assist Survey group with on-track survey operations. 
  • Assist Track Design group with track layouts and design plan reviews.
  • Attend office meetings, field meetings, and conference calls.
  • Assist in the management and supervision of engineering resources in the field such as rail grinding, Sperry car testing, concrete tie inspection, and vegetation control.
  • Assist in providing technical, logistical, and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of assigned project tasks within scope, schedule and budget. Receive instruction on and become familiar with Engineering safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices.
  • Other specific work assignments may be determined based on the planned headquarters.
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Actively pursuing a degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering at an accredited educational institution (Sophomore – Junior level)
  • Prior work experience in design, maintenance, or construction.
 
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous construction or railroad industry experience.
  • MATLAB experience.
  • Specific interest or desire to work in the railroad industry.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
